You read that right. There are people saying that this might push Australia over the edge on that subject. Uruguay has already passed the law and its expected to be signed by its president (which reminds me, take a moment to be twelve years old). Even fucking Ireland, which would rather let women die than defy the Catholic church on abortion (I’m speaking mostly of members of the Dáil, not your average Irish citizen who favors specific X case legislation or at least more liberal abortion laws by 64%), just passed same-sex marriage through the constitutional convention they’re running by a 4/5 margin, which means that SSM would be a protected right if it passes a national referendum.
And here in the US we’re limping behind on civil rights. Again. Maybe this will please Anthony Kennedy.
